unpair without erasing the watch?

I had to do a full restore yesterday on my iPhone X. Apparently my watch is still paired? I really want to keep the data that is currently on the watch (fitness goals, etc). Is there a way to unpair without erasing?

Hi ranelson,

If your Apple Watch doesn't have the information you need, or isn't tracking data to your WW+ app:

If those article don't help with what you want to do, let's get some more details to be sure that we understand:

  • What exactly is happening with your Apple Watch, and the WW+ app?
  • If the watch is still paired with your restored iPhone, what is different about it from before you restored the iPhone?

Have a great day!

Hi ranelson,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Apple Support Communities. We see that you would like to unpair your Apple Watch from your restored iPhone without erasing it, so that you don't lose data currently on the watch.

We're glad to help.

Unpairing will erase your Apple Watch, but it will also make a backup that you can then restore to a different Apple Watch.

Depending on what type of data you wish to keep, you will need either an iCloud backup or an encrypted backup using a computer.

This article has more details: Back up your Apple Watch

Take Care.
