Cell signal drops with iPhone 12 ProMax

Hey- anyone else having call drops/no cell service in areas where service should be great?

Verizon sent me a new SIM cards and still not picking up strong signals- at least not what I had prior to the switch. We pre-ordered two (2) IPhone 12 ProMax and both have exact same problem.

Software is up to date/latest version.

It does seem that if I turn off/restart I can get it back but doesn’t always work.

I’m reading that this is a nationwide issue, and not just for Verizon. Any suggestions or know of any upcoming fixes? Hate having a top of the line phones that don’t work as well as our older Androids we traded......

Do you have Wifi Calling enabled on your phone? Settings > Cellular > Wifi Calling

If you don't have great cellular service in your home, through your cellular provider, Wifi calling routes calls through your Wifi service and really works well.

There are other threads on this and ALL seem to be issues with Verizon. Remember, the cellular call capability comes from the provider, not Apple. We have iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max, on AT&T with zero dropped call issues.

You said you've swapped the sim card, so I'm assuming the sim card they sent is provisioned for 5G service. This leads me to suggest you:

Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data - What is it checked? If you live in an area with minimal to no 5G service (5G is still rolling out across a lot of the world), and your phone is set to 5G, you'll drop calls. Change it to 5G Auto or if you don't have 5G where you live to LTE

Otherwise, this seems to be an issue with Verizon, so you need to push Verizon on this.

Thank you for your response. I went to settings, etc as suggested. I do have it set to 5G auto. I think I’ll try LTE and see if it helps.

and yes, theses poor cell signal here, it was just better reception with my Note 10......but- I love Apple and that’s why I returned......

I’ll post update on how LTE goes.

Yes. It seems I can only use this on WiFi....when I get into town, or go out to the back yard, I can use cellular. Thankfully I can use WiFi in the house and in the vehicles. A bit disappointing I will say. I’m trying the LTE suggestion so maybe at some point I’ll capture a bar for cell....

You're welcome. I think a lot of people thought they bought a phone with 5G service and it should be blistering fast and work out of the box. Just like when the world moved over from 3G to 4G, it's going to take some time before 5G service is common everywhere and in some towns and locations, especially more rural or remote locales, it may be years before they see 5G service.
