Dolby Atmos not detected

Hi everyone.

I just bought a new TV because my old TV didn’t have an ARC HDMI connection to allow my stereo HomePod’s to play in Dolby Atmos. I’m having trouble figuring out why I still can’t play audio in Atmos.

My new TV is a TCL series 5 - 50S533-CA. I have my Apple 4K TV connect to HDMI port #4, which is ARC supported. Both the homepods and Apple TV are updated to the latest software. I have attached pictures showing all the settings I am using

I’ve even tried switching HDMI cables, but when I check for CEC devices on the TV, the Apple TV is detected, so I don’t think I need to go buy a new HDMI cable.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious. Any help would be appreciated!

Set up home theater audio with HomePod and Apple TV 4K - Apple Support

That works by using the HomePods instead of the TV speakers (or HDMI passthrough option), by sending the audio signal directly from Apple TV 4K to the HomePods. Also set Audio Format to Default (not Dolby Digital 5.1).

Your TV and HDMI-(e)ARC is not involved in this, when using HomePods.

Play audio in Dolby Atmos or surround sound on your Apple TV - Apple Support

“If you're using home theater audio with HomePod as your Default Audio Output, Dolby Atmos is already set up and you won't see the Immersive Audio option in Settings.”

“You can't play sound in Dolby Atmos if Quick Start is turned off in Settings. To check, go to Settings > Apps > iTunes Movies and TV Shows > Quick Start.”

Some older HDMI cables are not so good with 4K and above. Dolby Atmos is more demanding and needs a lot of speakers to do properly as seen in an IMAX theater. 4K BD disks that I have do not fully support the professional Atmos but they do support a cut down variant. 4K disks are all over the dial for audio support. Atmos needs fair bit of bandwidth in its own right.

I have a video I make in iTunes for THX with lossless audio to allow a sound system to really do a professional job. Everybody I play it all love my system, it brings IMAX to my home.
