what does a question mark and a lock next to my wifi mean?

Why have I got a question Mark and a lock next to my WiFi mean?

is this causing safari to stop me accessing sites?

It sounds like you're running into an issue with a question mark and lock next to your Wi-Fi symbol.


The lock means means that it has a password protected and requires a passcode to connect.


The question mark would refer to there being an issue with the connection. Try restarting as shown here: Restart your iPad


If it won't connect, take a look at the steps here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network
