iPhone 12 video to Final Cut Pro X

I’m recording a lot of video on my iPhone 12 and uploading to fcpx for editing. I’ve noticed the audio is not syncing with the video now. I used to always iPad videos with my iPhone X and audio wasn’t an issue. I usually don’t mess with the settings on the iPhone or fcpx and I never did before also. Is there a setting on fcpx I need to adjust when I import next time to make sure everything syncs correctly?

thank you!

Using Compressor (I had never heard of it) has made all the difference. I now have files off my iPhone that have the audio and video in sync when imported into Final Cut Pro.

The essential ingredient that Compressor adds is the ability to convert the audio from the iPhone that uses 44.1kHZ audio sampling rate to what Final Cut Pro and YouTube default to which is 48kHZ audio sampling.

A feature request is for Final Cut Pro to do this automatically when it sees it is iPhone footage being imported.

Using "Optimize media" when importing the file into Final Cut Pro was not enough for me to solve this problem (even though suggested above by someone). It needed Compressor to change the audio settings.

I’ve had the same issue with video since updating my phone from the 6s to the 12pro. I am finding this pretty distressing. I have the latest iOS and am on the latest FCP. I have started using handbrake to get a consistent fps and the audio drag has improved but things are still not totally in sync.

Since I’ve managed the variable fps issue could there also be a issue in how the file compression happens when exporting between applications? I’m really discouraged that I invested in this phone and my video is crisper but my audio issues impact the quality of work I am putting out.

Typically I transfer all my video by just airdropping since videos are all less than a minute. Recording in 1080p on my phone. I know this shouldn’t be the way to import videos but I did this before several times with no issues with audio. The QuickTime video I watched was before I was it imported to fcpx. So perhaps it’s not fcpx but with the transferring of the video via airdrop. I just didn’t think that would be the case since I did this before with my iPhone X. Issue just started to over with my iPhone 12. Thank you

Thanks for replying so quickly. I have used Image Capture to import the video from the iPhone and looked at it in Quick Time. In Quick Time the audio and video are in sync.

But when I import in Final Cut Pro, the audio goes out of sync.

Is this because of the variable frame rate of videos that the iPhone captures and Final Cut Pro doesn't handle it very well?

Is there any other solution? It's an annoying extra step in the workflow.

I am also currently having this issue as well with footage from my iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 14.4.2 on my 2010 Mac Pro with macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and I believe my FCPX is a little older at 10.4.x maybe? This is very irritating since I bought the iPhone 12 Pro for the camera system on it and now I can't even use the footage I have now shot with it, holding up my projects.
