Clicking on my downloads folder, my downloaded documents covered, absolutely covered my desktop. I can't figure out how to return all these documents to one folder, preferably the folder the downloads were initially in--even if that is not the most effective way to save/keep downloads. They absolutely cover the screen. Thanks for help.

I do have a suggestion. Since you indicated that these were all related files on a particular subject. I would create a folder on the desktop titled with that subject . Then open Downloads, then press the Command key and the A key. that will select all of the files therein. Then it is merely a matter of dragging one of the selected files into the new folder to transfer all of them at one time. I hope this helps you.
If you did not move the downloads from the download folder, all you have to do is to close that folder and they will still be there. If you wish to keep some or all of them elsewhere, then simply drag them from the download folder to the other folder. What downloads are you talking about?
Control-click on the Downloads folder on the Dock
then select your preferences how you want
the contents displayed.
When I clicked on the folder provided by my computer (a blue folder in the horizontal line of icons at the bottom of the desktop; with downward arrow icon on it); the horizontal list of downloaded files morphed into full-fledged independent documents own my desktop. I think dragging would take quite a long of time, some of the document stacks are three deep. I was looking for a recent article I had downloaded (all icons that have appeared are word processing documents). It seemed like the type of scenario where I could have just clicked on the original blue folder again, and all the documents would have returned there (like when you open a folder, and it presents the documents within, then close with the red x). It does not seem to present me with a folder to close; it is simply as if I opened a folder with a lot of documents but now they will not leave my desktop. Maybe that very confusing description will help you. I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.
