Since I've never had to use an incident of AppCare Express replacement even though I have AppleCare+ on my products, I checked the Apple Support Document, which is very clear on this:

  1. You pay the $99 AppleCare+ replacement fee
  2. A hold is put on your credit card for the full cost of the replacement device until your device is received

You may have emailed Tim Cook, but he's very unlikely going to do anything about a process which is following the exact process detailed in this link --> iPhone Express Replacement - Apple Support

It says some issues may be covered under Apple Standard Warranty (known as AppleCare), AppleCare+ or Consumer Law.

If your phone is within the standard AppleCare one year warranty and there is a defect in the phone (not accidental damage), there may be no fee. If the phone is damaged (presumably accidentally), or no longer inder the standard one year AppleCare warranty, AppleCare+ requires a $99 fee for an express replacement.

I understand your phone failed diagnostic. I also understand Apple charged you the $99 fee for express replacement. Is your phone within the one year standard warranty? You really haven't provided much of any detail about what is actually wrong with your phone or when you purchased your phone.

I'm not a mind reader and I am trying to help you here.

@lobsterghost1 I contacted Tim Cook 5 days ago with no response. If I get a response I will post it.

@sberman The question i am trying to get answered is why?

Support ran a diagnostic on my phone and it failed. No damage to iPhone.

‘I am currently on quarantine so I cannot go into the store. Cannot be without my phone for 7-10 days.

I was told I had to put the full price of the phone on hold on a credit card which I’m ok with. Then I had to pay $99 to use express replacement, even though on the AppleCare page it says that service comes with it.

The way it is supposed to work is, you put t he full price of the phone on hold, if you do not return your phone, your card is charged. Once you return your phone, if there is any physical defects that warrant the fee. You card will be charged the $99. If there are no defects then the full hold price is released.

Thus is not what I was told. I was told that since my phone failed the diagnostic, and I want to utilize the express replacement. Then I would be charged the $99 fee regardless of the condition of the phone.

Makes me feel like it’s a opportunity for Apple to rip me off.
