You might try to reset your trust settings. See About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

Hello Rusty14u,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand the concern of getting a message about restoring your iPhone to factory settings, and the possibility of losing your data. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

Do you recall creating a backup of your iPhone in the past on iCloud or on your computer? If not sure, please check out the following link:

Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you were able to locate backups of your iPhone, you can restore your iPhone to factory settings, then restore from a backup. Here's how:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If you were unable to find any backups of your iPhone, then this process of restoring your device to factory settings will result in losing your data.

Also, check out this helpful link:

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

Thanks Raina_b22, I have tried restarting each device to no avail. iTunes still displays the same message ( iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone ) extra. I have managed my iCloud storage to the best without deleting important data. I only have one pc available to do an iTunes backup. I have the latest version of iTunes on my pc. None of the other information is relevant to my situation.
