Connecting YES2 PSR-172 to Garageband

Before I get into this question, I want to say that I am not sure if this is even related to apple and this is my first time attempting to connect anything external to GarageBand. As the title says, I have a Yamaha Education Suite 2 model PSR-172. I am trying to connect my keyboard to GarageBand with a Forge MIDI In-Out to USB. When I go to the Audio/MIDI Preferences on GarageBand, it says 1 MIDI device detected but when I press record and play on my keyboard, nothing happens. I have seen many questions quite similar to this one but are out-dated and have a MIDI interface connected to their Mac instead of an adapter like I do. I have gone over and over the manual and can't find anything related to connecting to an AU application. My OS is MacOS Catalina 10.15.7.
