Find My AirPods - AirPods not in List of Devices

I find this article a little confusing... It reads that if you have already setup your iPhone to work with the AirPods, then it says they should show up on the list of My Devices. That doesn't appear to be the case. I have used Find My app many times but I don't think I have used it since I paired my AirPods with my iPhone 11 Pro Max. So maybe the language in this article is wrong. Maybe it should read.. If you have paired the AirPods with another Apple device (iPhone, MAC, etc.) AND have used the Find My app since that time, the AirPods should show up on the list of My Devices. If that is not the case, then they will not show up. Can anyone add some clarity? Thank you in advance.

Hello,

If your AirPods are out of Bluetooth range, out of charge, or in the case with the cover closed, Find My won't give a current location. You just have to find them manually by looking for them. However, Find My may list the most recent location where they were last connected.

Good luck.
