Dim screen on MacBook Pro M1

I have a brand new MacBook. The screen is much dimmer than my old MacBook. I've set the brightness through System Preferences, but it just doesn't get bright enough.

Intermittent screen dimming My M1 MacBook Air dims if it's bright outside or a bright light hits the screen. The dimming happens not when idle but just after opening the computer from sleep mode. It's almost as if it's doing the inverse of what it should do, getting brighter when the ambient light is bright. The quick solution is to brighten the screen using the keyboard. A few minutes or maybe a bit later, it will again dim, and I'll have to use the keyboard to brighten the screen. The display setting is on auto in the settings panel. What control should I adjust?

Brightness keeps changing on M1 Macbook Pro / Big Sur 11.1 Just got this new Mac Book Pro M1 and I've noticed an issue with the display brightness. I set it to a 90% level and after a while I notice that it has gotten darker. The brightness setting then shows a lower level. I've unchecked the "automatically adjust brightness" setting on the Display panel. Don't know where else to look. Did not have this issue on my older MBP with Catalina.
