My new MacBook Pro M1 does not recognize my bluetooth mouse. Now, even when I use the USB with it, it won't connect. I've heard that others are having this problem. Any advice?

Does anyone have a solution for MacBook Pro M1 not recognizing mouse?

Hey cardinalcode,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! We understand that your Bluetooth mouse and USB mouse are not connecting with your Mac. We want to help! To help isolate and narrow this down, let's see what happens in safe mode and a test user account. Safe mode will let us know if a third-party app or process is possibly interfering. Here's how to start to safe mode. Be sure to follow the steps under "Apple silicon": How to use safe mode on your Mac

After noting the results there, restart your Mac to exit safe mode. If it connected in safe mode, try again after restarting to connect those. If the issue continues, create a new user account to see if the same behavior happens there. This will let us know if the issue is system-wide, or only in your account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

If the same behavior happens in another user account, start to macOS Recovery to see if you're able to use the mouse there: Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon

These steps may also help with the USB mouse: If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac

Let us know how that goes.

Take care.

I just need to vent that I am losing my mind. Bought the brand new M1 right around New Year's.

Won't recognize a bluetooth mouse at all, so I went back to using a USB one, which meant I needed a bigger hub.

Bought a 7 in 1 dongle, but all three USB hubs wouldn't work at once and the monitor went pink, so I assumed it was the dongle.

But now I'm on an old hub with a single USB while I wait for a new one, and it won't recognize a USB mouse.

I can't get any work done. It's infuriating.

Update: new hub arrived yesterday. (FlePow from Amazon; comments from M1 users said it worked.)

Managed to get USB mouse, keyboard, and external monitor to all work simultaneously yesterday....except when I came down this morning and woke everything from sleep, it would not recognize the external monitor at all, which is my main screen with my dock, so my only option was to unplug and restart everything. Then the keyboard was glitchy (had to unplug/replug). And then I had to go into the monitor preferences and move that white bar back to the correct main screen. It worked fine yesterday but seemed to revert to default with the restart.

If this is what I'm going to have to do every day, I'm not going to be happy. What am I doing wrong?

And the latest latest update: after working all day successfully, the USB keyboard has stopped responding entirely and the USB mouse is glitchy and working only intermittently.

Really dumb technical noob question: these are completely separate issues, right? Not recognizing bluetooth has nothing to do with not recognizing USB devices or are they somehow connected?

I just want to be able to work using my peripherals.
