Can you stop external drive banking to icloud

I have connected an external hard drive to view the information and it’s saved to my iCloud, how to do stop it being on there. It’s causing my cloud storage to be full

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

You're very welcome and thanks for verifying that information for us. The first article we provided in our previous reply, can help to disable specific applications that is syncing data to iCloud.


Also, you may want to see if, "Desktop and Documents" is turned on for iCloud Drive. If your documents are stored within this folder, you can turn it off by following these steps: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive This way your documents will no longer sync to iCloud.

You have the option to turn off apps that's syncing to iCloud through the external hard drive by following these steps: Turn iCloud features on or off


In addition, you can move the data that's syncing to iCloud from the external hard drive to your Mac. For details on how to perform this task, you can follow the section that says, "Move files to or from an external storage device": Use external storage devices with Mac
