Text notification not showing contact

Hello - I have an IPhone 12 (iOS 14.3). Anytime I receive a text message, it just says “Notification” and does not let me know which contact it is from. I want to see WHO the message is from but WITHOUT the preview. This is the way I’ve had my iPhones set up for YEARS and all of a sudden, it does not do this anymore. Anytime I get a text now, it just says “notification”. Is this a glitch?

I have my notification settings to NOT show a preview, but, I should still be able to see who the message is coming from. It should just say “John Doe 2 Messages”.

thanks for your help!!

Hi there SageMcCallister,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like Notifications for Messages are not working as expected on your iPhone. We’ll be happy to help.

It sounds like the issue could be within Settings. Let’s check the Settings, as shown here: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It sounds like you’d want to have Notifications enabled for Lock Screen but set to Never allow previews. We hope this helps.

Best regards.
