Can I charge my new iPhone 12 Pro Max with the original iPhone 7 cable ?

I was wondering if the lighting cable from my old iPhone 7 would work to charge my new iPhone 12 Pro Max ? I have an old mid-2012 MacBook Pro which only have the old USB ports, and I haven't bought the separate MegaSafe or the power adapter. I have been thinking about getting a Satechi USB-A to USB-C adapter that Apple has on their website, so I could charge my new iPhone on my old MacBook and using one of the many old power adapter tha the old iPhones came with - both of which only have the old USB-A port.

I assume the old lighting port is the same, which is why I am looking into using the old iPhone 7 cable.

By the way, I had to choose the iPhone 11 Pro Max device option for this topic as the 12 Pro Max did not come up.
