My HDMI adapter only shows my background screen on the tv but not what’s playing on the laptop
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.0
With the computer connected to TV with HDMI cable >> System Preferences >> Display >> look for Gather Windows option
Go System Preferences >> Sound >> Play Sound Effects through >> Change to The Name Of TV Example Samsung 65 Inches
Thank you this was very helpful, I meant to put solved for you but accidentally pressed the other comment, it shows on my Tv now as well but the sound only plays from my laptop do you know how to get sound on my Tv
You are likely in extended desktop mode. Drag the window with the content you want to view to the external display.
