Ipod Classic. Lost Content

After the last sync with my iTunes, on my Macbook Pro, my iPod Classic has lost all of its content.

Now iTunes won't even acknowledge the iPod to re-sync. Has anyone else had this problem.,or have a solution to remedy this issue. The iPod has performed flawlessly for years.
