iPhone 12 Pro Max - Cyan Screen Glitch

Is there anyone who experienced their phone had this cyan filter. I was picked up my phone and it had this cyan filter, color was like the same when you invert picture colors from old phones. It lasted for about 20 seconds. I didn't get the chance to take a picture of it.

I had my phone since Dec. 19, 2020.

Hi Torvics023,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with the display on your iPhone 12 Pro Max. We're happy to help.

If you check your accessibility settings are you showing any vision settings such as Invert Colors are enabled? You can navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size to double-check. If needed, the article here can also assist with checking other vision features: Use display and text size preferences on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If the feature is turned off, does the issue continue after a normal restart of your device? Check here for those steps and additional steps to help: If the screen isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad

You can also view helpful information to check additional vision settings from the guide here: Get started with accessibility features on iPhone

Cheers!

This literally just happened to me on my Iphone 12 pro max 128gb. Lasted about 10 secs. I was on the instagram app and the background white colour inverted to cyan blue. I closed the app and restarted it and it fixed. I searched google and it led me to this forum. Weird. Must be software related issue as never happened before. I’m currently updated to the latest 14.4 IOS. Didn’t manage to take a screenshot as wasn’t long enough. I thought I was being hacked for a sec.

yes, I encountered the same issue twice.... went to apple store for diagnostics test and they had my iPhone replaced. Less than two weeks later, this just happened on my replaced iPhone today.

apple staff did inform me that it’s hard to get another replacement should it happen again unless I managed to take a photo of it... gotta wait for the next software update and hope it fixes this issue I guess :(

this happened to me as well about 30 minutes ago, I was in safari (ikea site) and looked away for a moment, when i looked back all the white on my screen had turned cyan.

I panicked as i got this phone about 8 days ago. it didn't go away with time as some of the others but it did leave when i reset my phone.

some others mentioned being on instagram and a few hours before this occurred i had used instagram for the first time on this phone.

I am on an iphone 12 pro 256 gb on ios 14.4 at the moment.

Hi Torvics023,

Thanks for the information and checking. If the issue hasn't occurred since, it's likely not to happen again. While we can't say if the issue is software, app, or hardware related, you can always be sure your data is backed up with the steps here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If it does occur again, make note of any apps open, the iOS version installed, and reach out to Apple Support for more help: Contact Apple Support

Have a great week!

I had the exact same issue. The device is iPhone 12 Pro, 256GB. It lasted 4-5 seconds. I was on IG and I took a screenshot. After the screenshot the colors returned back to normal from a cyan filter. Screenshot had the cyan effect at first but then it fixed itself once I checked it on the gallery. My iOS and IG are all up to date. IG and IOS were running on dark mode.

I really hope that this is a software issue because my device is only 6 days old.

same happened here, iphone12mini 128gb, bought dec2020, still on ios 14.3.

happened last week while i was on safari, lasted about 5sec, i thought i accidentally inverted the colors but when i tried replicating it via settings it was not an option, there was no cyan invert available, i just thought maybe a software bug.

after a few days it happened again, about 10secs this time, again on safari but remained even after i pressed home via assistive touch. i was able to take a screen shot only and not a video as i was nowhere near any other iphone or gadget to take a video as evidence. the screenshot taken came out normal in color and not cyan, so i think its a hardware issue as the screenshot didn’t detect the cyan invert, only my eyes did, so it must be a display issue.

happened again a few days ago but lasted only 1sec., on home screen.

then yesterday while i was using the flashlight for about a minute, via the lowerleft shortcut, the flashlight turned off by itself, and for a few seconds i couldn’t re-activate the flashlight, seems like the flashlight shortcut was disabled for a few seconds, and after about a minute it suddenly returned to normal, i was able to turn on the flashlight again.

then just a few hours ago, i was recording short video clips on a dark outdoor which automatically turned on the flashlight assist and after about 4 or 5 clips of 30sec videos the video shortcut on the lower right couldn’t be activated, seems like it was disabled for a few seconds just like the flashlight icon, but returned to normal after about a minute.

i do have a speck presidio casing on it but i didn’t feel any unusual temperature on the iphone from the area near the camera where its not covered by the casing. also, battery level was well above 20% during those events.

by now, ios 14.6 is already available but i’m still hesitant to update since mine occurred on ios 14.3 and it wasn’t resolved on 14.4, and update info doesn’t mention anything about these problems, so i might hang on at 14.3 for a while until i hear some fix for these bugs or problems.

Same issue here on an iPhone 12 Pro Max (brand new, as in I opened it and set it up 24 hours ago).

I was already skeptical of this device because it heats up like nothing I’ve ever experienced before with any device, let alone an Apple product (no case, no significant app load, etc.)

I am on 14.4 - the current latest release according to the Updates settings page - and experienced a quick cyan-colored (light, greenish blue) flash while reading a page in Safari.

This is something one could reasonably expect to be related to the screen pinout or connector, so it’s quite concerning. I’d love for confirmation that this is indeed a software issue only, but I imagine it’ll be several update cycles before that is confirmed.

others who inevitably experience this, please include;

  • the app you were using
  • the iOS version you’re on
  • your full iPhone model details

i have a 512GB 12 Pro Max purchased through the iPhone Upgrade Program in the US (opaque window for 5G antenna is visible on the right side).

I guess it’s a software issue?🤷‍♀️ Had this “flash” just today 4x already within 5 hours while using instagram, facebook and youtube. All of a sudden the “white” just turned into “cyan” for a few seconds. Tried to screencapture but it went away so quickly. Restarted my phone also but its still changing into cyan. Bought this phone 02/04/2021~ 512gb Iphone 12 promax~iOS 14.4

I have the same phone and it happens to me at least once a week. I could easily get a screenshot of it...it lasts for a long time. Usually when I’m on safari, but then is the same on all apps when it kicks in. SO frustrating. This was way too expensive to be so glitchy. My calendar also gives me fits. It’s like my typing is on a delay and I have to hit the commands multiple times to get them to take... and to set an alert??? Ha! Please. I think the phone actually laughs at me. I can got to the accessibility setting and turn all the options off and it helps for a while, then it craps out again. Ugh.

I too had this problem, similar cyan teal color filter over the phone screen. Occurred while I was using Safari and on a phone call. Was only there for about 20 seconds. I did manage to take the screenshot but after the color went away the screenshot no longer showed any irregular color. First it’s happened on my 12 pro max in the 5 months I’ve had the phone.
