I have tried to pair the I-Phone 4 to my 2008 5 series BMW unsuccessfully. When I checked compatible phones on BMW website, 3GS was the latest phone. When I called the dealer, they said that BMW may come out with a software upgrade later this year AND I could have it installed for USD 439. What a rip off!! If I would have known this, I would NOT have bought my I-Phone. Isn’t there an APP for this???
I've easily paired my iPhone4 to my 2009 BMW 328 with iDrive. After entering the code first on the phone and then on iDrive, they paired. The problem is that when looking at my contact list on the car, every entry seems to have been duplicated. This never happened with my 3GS, which occasionally had trouble downloading any contact lists. Anyone know how to fix this duplication problem?
my old 3G would pair but since the update will not
my new Iphone 4 will not pair as well
i deleted the phone profile in my car,my phone sees the car but will not go to the next point and allow me to input passkey
and i rang Apple....spoke to a young person in Australia named Marlin and after explaining the problem to him and having him on the phone going through the process with me......he agreed it will not do it
he referred it to a senior tech person and actually called me back and Apples advice was this
1.....find someone with another Iphone 4 to try their phone on my car (well that won't work because there are limited phones in Australia and i am not going to wlak down the road asking people do they own a Iphone)
2.....drive 45 minutes to my nearest BMW dealer and try my phone on another car
when i explained how difficult that would be and since Apple acknowledged the problem he said he would speak to someone senior and call me back
That was Monday and i am still waiting for Apple to call me back
Thanks Apple.........i had one phone which worked
installed the updated software on that and it will not work in my car now and my new phone will not work in the car
so i have two Iphones neither of which will work and no help from Apple
if there is anyone from Apple who reads this site.......will you please ask Marlin at Apple in Brisbane to call the guy he promiesed to call back.
somehow i think i will be waiting a very long time
and if i don't get a call....both phones are going back on Saturday and Apple can refund me for both of them!
I have the 2005 BMW 525, and at first I had no problem with pairing or staying connected, but lately it disconnects from the Iphone 4 BT during a call, but caller is still connected to phone. I have to switch to speaker on Iphone, which is very poor, and the caller has a hard time hearing me. I have tried all the typical fixes - delete the iphone on the BMW BT settings, re-pair again, reboot iphone, forget the BMW BT, etc and it still does this random disconnects. Sometimes it will re-connect to BT, but most of the time it will stay disconnected until I turn off the car, and comeback later. Sometimes it re- pairs, and other times it does not. Sometimes the audio is muffled on the callers end as well. It is very frustrating and dangerous.
Update on BT problem with BMW. Apple exchanged my Iphone 4 for another one (same OS 4.01) and so far I've had no problems with my BMW. The new phone is a slightly later production model than the 1st one (which I received when the phone came out). Also my BT problem with my V-TECH home BT system now works with it. I think the radio in other phone was either slightly off frequency or had some other issue. So far so good. I will get back in about 1 week and see if it still is good.
Have you tried having your car find your phone, inputing the code into the car, then the iP4? This is how it works on many automobiles, including my Mercedes. Most people have tried to do it backwards, by trying to input the code into the phone then the car, when the reverse is what works.
I had the same problem of pairing with BMW. After a few tries, I had figured out how to solve this pairing issue. I think it might be helpful for you.
The pairing problem is not because of my iphone4. It's actually BMW iDrive stupid design. very awkward with that big fat dial. Once you turn on both Iphone4 and BMW to bluetooth mode, the iDrive will first ask you to key in passcode. Although on iDrive it can take any length, but you better enter 4 digits(in my case I enter 0000). Here is the thing you need to do is to push iDrive round dial to confirm the passcode you just enter. Because of iDrive bad design it took me 1 hour to figure out I need to move the focus to "confirm the passcode" to confirm it. After that iphone would display a panel for you to enter the passcode you just entered on the iDrive to iphone(in my case 0000). Then the rest process will be done automatically by itself.
I've just bought a 57 (2007) plate M3 and am having trouble making calls on the iPhone 4 using the BMW idrive and Bluetooth. My phone pairs fine and I can find all of my contacts, but when I click on contact none of the options (including) call are highlighted and so can't be selected. The idrive shows no network or phone signal even though the signal is showing strong on the actual iPhone. Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this? I do not know what firmware I have on the idrive, and do not know how to update it? I have iPhone OS 4.0.2
