M1 MacBook Air crash noise while playing music

Hi, I have bought a new M1 MacBook Air recently, while I found an issue for the music play back, when I am playing the YouTuBe or Spotify, I hear very bad crack noise, this happens while I am running other apps, here is a sample link from other MacBook users: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3yOaLgF6yQ.

and myself recording video attached: https://youtu.be/jhKe_VPftnQ

does anyone knows if this is a hardware issue or software issue?

here is my MacBook Air configurations:

Model: MacBook Air

Chip: M1

Memory: 16 GB

system version: macOS Big Sur.

Seems this problem has been solved now, haven't experiencing the issue for many days, so what I have tried to reset the nvram by pressing the combo keys: command + option + P + R at restart, I'll keep look into it, I'll get back if the issue persists. Thanks very much!

Hi ShileiMao,

Thank you for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities and sending these videos over to us. Based on what we're able to see, this definitely looks like a case of interference that's causing the static. Is this happening when you're listening to music downloaded on the MacBook Air, or are you streaming the content?

The resource below contains a lot of great troubleshooting steps you can try, to isolate the source of the interference.

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Have a great day!

Hi there,

You're very welcome! So we're on the same page, are you currently running macOS 11.1 on your MacBook Air? If not, let's use the steps below to update macOS first.

How to update the software on your Mac

If the problem persists after updating macOS, please reach out to our Apple Support advisors at Get Support so we can take a closer look into what's going on with your new Mac. They will have access to additional tools we don't have here, and will be in a better position to determine whether it's hardware or software related at that point.

Take care!

Resetting NVRAM worked for a few days and then the problem came back.

I get this issue fairly constantly. Here's what I've noticed:

  • I stream music using spotify (latest version)
  • Using iOS 11.1
  • 2020 MacbookPro with M1 chip
  • It seems to happen most when graphical changes are occurring on the screen, for example if I am using Ctr+Up to see what windows I have open, or if I am switching between multiple desktops. Or even switching tabs in Google Chrome.

I'm going to be taking it up with Mac Support again as it is unacceptable for the cost of this device.

Hey, thanks for your reply! I've tried the solutions above still no luck, I tried to play the music locally it still output the noise. I noticed that especially happens when I running a bit heavy task at background (e.g: Xcode build), this will definitely break the music playing, is this sounds like a software issue or hardware issue?

I have been keep using it for more days, seems the issue persists, especially when I am listening to the music and doing the Xcode build at same time, it feels easily to break the music playing by that way, but after I did the nvram reset as the last reply, it backs on working again. I doubt this is something to do with the multi tasking issue?
