Dictionary, British English change to American English

I'm an American living in Europe. My new MacBook Pro (2020, Big Sur 11.1) has the British English dictionary. Can I replace the British English dictionary with an American English dictionary? It is currently constantly changing the spelling of certain words. If not, how can I edit the British English dictionary?

Yes, Go to system preferences > keyboard > text > spelling. Instead of Automatic or British English, make sure the window there says US English.

Allan, thanks for the info. I tried it and it seems to work but I had to change my location from Europe to America and that worries me since I'm not sure how that would, if it does, affect correcting my misspelled words since I actually do live in Europe (Germany). When I go directly into the "dictionary" application it does come up with the American spelling, but I haven't written enough yet to make sure it uses the American spelling if I accidentally misspelled or "fat-click" a word.
