Where is my hard drive

Turned off my iMac for 4 days. Now when I turn it on I get the folder with a question mark. I can't recover the hard drive. Why?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

Please follow the steps in Startup Screens Troubleshooting Steps and if it still will not start up, please contact your local Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Thank you. All of those suggestions failed. I am on the phone, waiting, 45 minutes so far for apple support. Thanks

The pandemic has made wait times much longer than normal. Also, calling on a Monday morning is peak time.
