I want to use the fax option in my printer from my iPhone

My phone can print from the printer, but I want to fax from my phone (printer is also a fax machine). How do I add the fax part to my print options?

I don't think it's possible from iPhone that prints to an AirPrint printer. You simply don't have the option of selecting "Fax" as an output of the printer.

Alternatively, there are several fax applications on the App Store. Perhaps one of the could satisfy your needs.

Thanks - I use it so infrequently that it doesn’t make sense to pay at minimum $9.99 to use it. I was looking for free, of course!

On my laptop, I can chose one of PrinternamePrint or PrinternameFax, and print from my bed. I was trying to efficiently use the Notes scanner to create a pdf of a form that had to be filled out by hand, signed, with a Voided check attached, to submit without getting up off my behind, walking over to the den, climbing on the office chair on wheels (I’m 67 and shouldn’t do that :-) ) so I can see the control panel on the printer/fax machine that’s on a tall cabinet, copying the second page of the form with the voided check attached, then typing in the fax number, loading the two page form into the feeder, and hope it went through.

Plan C - told my taller husband to copy and fax. It’s his insurance form after all.

I just thought I SHOULD be able to do it. I just learned about the scanner built into the Notes app, and thought it was a great shortcut. But, notsomuch.

Hello,

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, an easy way to solve this does not appear to exist. I could at least not find a suitable app that would allow you to control this printer from the iPhone for fax transmissions. Also, I assume that you do not want to use a special fax service (for security and cost reasons, it is better to use your own printer/fax machine).

The best I can suggest would be to use some kind of remote access (remote desktop, VNC) app for the iPhone to control the laptop. Since you can send a fax from the laptop, that should make it possible to transfer a PDF to the laptop, and fax from there, controlled by the iPhone. Perhaps a bit complicated... :-)

Someone else may have a better idea.

Thanks - I had several options, including emailing the scanned document to myself and faxing it from the laptop (which was also in the same room with me), or as I mentioned, walking to the other side of the house and using the fax machine qua fax machine. I was trying to figure out if it COULD be done, since I was feeling technologically smug at having discovered I can scan documents from my cell phone using a feature in the Notes app.

A more important question is why a major insurance company can’t set up an automatic monthly premium payment over the phone, like the others can, and requires snail mail or fax and a voided check. 🤬
