Some notes: I've turned off OS automatic updates, since almost every time I update, one or more peripherals or the whole computer, no longer works. Since the current system *appeared* stable, I've kept it. I use other software for virus checking, etc. And, I temporarily disconnected the external drive, etc. while trying to diagnose the problem.
