'Filter' failed -- suddenly

Suddenly both printers are failing with "Stopped = 'Filter' failed" messages. They printed fine LAST WEEK! Is this a New Year's present from Apple?!?! Catalina 10.15.7 on a 2019 iMac Retina 5k, 27inch; Canon Pro-100 and Canon Pixma iP6600d

How do I fix this?

The report didn't make it into your reply. Do it this way:

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply.

IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:

Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine what might be causing the problem.

You can save you and us a lot of time and effort if you do the following:

Please navigate to the Mac App Store or navigate to www.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it. This report will help us get a good idea what has been installed on your system and help us be able to diagnose what may be wrong.

When you have your report, you can attach it when you reply to this message and we can then review it and help you determine what is needed to get your system running well again.

First, there is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This user tip describes what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community

That being said you should uninstall MacBooster according to the developer's instructions.

Also some food for thought: unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's or your bank's servers, they are useless. Public VPN's are anything but private.

When done removing the software rerun Etrecheck and search thru the report for any MacBootster files still installed and remove them.

This is the EtreCheck report:

Some notes: I've turned off OS automatic updates, since almost every time I update, one or more peripherals or the whole computer, no longer works. Since the current system *appeared* stable, I've kept it. I use other software for virus checking, etc. And, I temporarily disconnected the external drive, etc. while trying to diagnose the problem.
