Will inserting an iPhone7 Plus SIM card (4G) into an unlocked iPhone12 Pro Max (5G Ready) will downgrade the 5G capabilities of the iphone12 Pro Max?

I bought an unlocked iPhone12 from Apple hoping to simpy swap my iPhone7 Plus SIM card into iPhone12 at home conditions. Some cellpone providers have warned people that swaping a 4G SIM card from an older model iPhone into a 5G ready iPhone12 will downgrade iPhone 12 (5G ready) system to 4G.

They suggest that only the cellphone company is able to activate the NEW 5G SIM card which has come with an iPhone 12 without downgrading the 5G SIM card.

Is this true?

If you ordered the phone from Apple and you identified AT&T at the time of order, when you confirmed your telephone number, when you turn the phone on, it automatically activates the new phone to your telephone number. If that doesn't happen on turn on, yes, you can then contact AT&T directly and they'll activate your telephone number to your new phone.
