Change of ownership of ipad

My previous iPad was passed on to my husband about 12 months ago but we omitted to clear the iPad before he started using it. The problem we have is that all my photos are going onto his iPad and taking up all his storage. I am assuming this is because the iPad has my name and Apple ID on it. Can I change this now without losing all his data?
