Kernel Panic - GPU is not found. PCI config access fails!!! error

Morning,

Purchased a brand new iMac Pro (2017) tail end of December. The device was set up for the user and updated to Big Sur, shipped to the user, was running fine for the several hours over several days It took for me to set up.

User reports out of the box an update was needed (looks like 11.0.1 to 11.1), and since then has been receiving a crash error regularly. It appears to be when computer goes to sleep, when reawaking, the crash happens and the computer reboots. Have changed power settings to keep awake for a couple of hours now, however, it's not a fix.

Computer is up-to-date with MAC OS updates, and there is no Time machine set up for roll-back.

For anyone receiving the same error. I opened a ticket with Apple. Cleared the NVRAM, ran in safe mode, and created a new user and it continued to happen. We factory reset the machine and it happened at the OS set up screen. Apple finally caved after about 2 weeks of the ticket open and confirmed it was probably an issue with the GPU. We used this info to go back to the supplier and get it swapped.

Joseph, no external devices were plugged in.

Hi there Sylvestarrr,

We understand that your iMac Pro is experiencing unexpected shutdowns and error messages. We’d like to help however we can.

Does this only happen when certain external devices are connected to the Mac? If so, does this continue to occur after disconnecting all external devices?

Let’s test if the issue happens in safe mode as well.

Start up your Mac in safe mode

We’d also recommend following this great article if this continues to happen in safe mode and with all external devices disconnected:

If your Mac restarted because of a problem

Cheers!
