Choppy footage
As soon as I import my videos, they become choppy. Ive waited for it to be done rendering, I’ve tried reinstalling the software, but everything seems to not work. Is there anything else I can do?
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.14

What's the project frame rate? 120fps is high frame rate designed for making slomo. If that's what you want to do use the automatic speed function in the retiming popup menu. High frame rate means high shutter speed. Playing at normal speed any motion will look choppy because there is no motion blur in the frame. Looks good in slomo, not so much at normal speed.

I apologize, I totally didn’t mean to add the pro at the end.
it is the MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
the files are on my desktop, and I have 2.11 TB of free space on my hard drive that I took them off from and I have 181 GB available on my Mac at the moment.
It’s the Mac book air pro, macOS Big Sur version 11, FCP 10.5.1, this Media is from my Sony a6400, yes it opens in quick time, yes it plays smoothly there.
i never had this problem before. I just started a new project and for some reason it’s acting up now.
There is no such thing as MacBook Air Pro... there are many different MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models...
Click the Apple menu, and choose About this Mac to see exactly which model - like "MacBook Pro (13", early 2013)" or something like that.
Open one such media file in Quicktime Player, press Command-I, twirl open all the sections, and post a screenshot.
Also: do the project settings match the clip settings - frame size, and frame rate?
Where are the media files, and how full are the drives containing your media and your OS?
I did that and it is still not as smooth. When I import it to final cut and don’t add it to the project, it runs perfectly and smoothly. But as soon as I add it to the project it just becomes more choppy.
Information, please.
Mac model, OS and FCP versions.
What media is this. Does it open in Quicktime Player? Does it play smoothly there?
"encoded fps: 119.88"
This seems like it may have been recorded with un unstable frame rate. It ought to exactly 120.
See if optimizing the clip helps.
I figured it out! Thank you guys so much for all of the help. I really appreciate it!
