Super Drive on iMac 27" Immediately Ejects CDs and DVDs

Hi Mac Community:

I am experiencing a problem with my iMac 27" computer. When I attempt to put a CD or DVD in the super drive slot, the discs are immediately ejected. There is nothing stuck inside the drive. I have tried to use a cleaning disc to clean the super drive, but again, I experience the same problem since the disc is immediately ejected when I place it in the super drive slot. Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Ultimately, I will probably have to try to take the computer in to a Mac Store and have the super drive replaced. I am unable to watch movies or load cds and music in iTunes. Thank you again for your help, advice and suggestions. Thank you in advance for responding to my question. Take care. Superdrives have been unreliable and/or fail easily. If you are no longer covered by a warranty, you may want to consider getting an external drive - choose trayloading because it is far less problem prone than a slot loading one. Then you'd have one you can use with any computer and it won't cost more than a replacement. I got mine from this recommended vendor:

Have you tried other discs? Make sure it is facing the right way. (the picture goes towards you when facing the screen) This usually happens when it can't recognize the disc you have inserted. Also, make sure it's not blueray. Superdrives only support CD, and DVD, not blueray

It's very possible that the drive is either broken, or the lens is dirty. Are you 100% sure that there is nothing in it? Also, when I had mine jammed, what I did was open terminal (utilities folder in your applications folder) and run "drutil tray eject" WITHOUT the quotes. Do this when there is no CD/DVD in the drive. Your drive will make a weird noise if it does anything.

Hi Mac-gu:

Thank you for responding to my question. I always place the disc with the picture/label facing me and the screen. Also, the discs that I put in the drive are not blu-ray. They are standard DVDs and CDs. Any standard DVD movie or Audio CD that I place in the super drive are ejected immediately. Again, thank you for your response and I appreciate your input.
