Big Sur bug? Cannot unbundle burst photos anymore

I recently updated my mac to big sur. I used to be able to unbundle and separate bust photos in the Photos app but not any more. It only shows the first photo of a series of burst photos even after making a selection. Is this one of the Big Sur problems that we have to wait until it gets fixed? Or is there a new way to unbundle burst photos? Thanks.

It is supposed to work like this: View photo bursts and select shots to work with in Photos on Mac - Apple Support

  1. In the Photos app  on your Mac, double-click the burst in the Imported album or in the Bursts album in the sidebar.
  2. To select photos from the burst, click the Make a Selection button in the upper-left corner of the photo.
  3. Click each photo that you want to save as an individual photo, then click the circle in the lower-right corner to mark the photo as selected.
  4. When you’ve finished selecting photos, click Done.
  5. Do one of the following:
  • Keep the selected photos and delete the others in the burst: Click Keep Only Selection.
    • The selected photos appear individually in the Imported album, and unselected photos are placed in the Recently Deleted album. The burst no longer appears in the Imported album or in the Burst album.
  • Make the selected photos appear individually and keep all of the photos in the burst: Click Keep Everything.
    • The selected photos appear individually, and the photo burst remains unchanged.

But I have not been able to split a burst at all after the upgrade to Big Sur. Even after making a selection and then using "Keep only selection" the burst remains a burst. Wait for the next update to Big Sur to fix this.

Hi NaluTheAussie,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We can see that you're having an issue with using burst photos on your Mac. Let's try starting up your Mac in safe mode to see if you can manage your burst photos. Starting in safe mode will take a little longer than normal, because it verifies and repairs the directory, cleans caches, and loads only Apple-critical items. If the issue continues in safe mode, please Contact Apple Support.
