How to use Apple pay in the US with unionpay card

I have a credit card issued from a Chinese bank which is with a unionpay. I’ve tried to connect it with Apple Pay. The connection was successful but I couldn’t pay with it at any merchants in San Francisco where I live right now. Could anyone tell me how to use it? My devise is an iPhone 12.
