Black iPad Air screen but with flashlight I can just make out "Hello, Hola, ... " screen

iPad Air black screen but if I take flashlight to it while in the dark I can make out some writing on the screen. It's the welcome "Hello, hola, etc" screen.

Touching screen does nothing.

Cannot get SIRI on but it's been reset so I guess that makes sense.

On iTunes it's recognized (via my iMac) and it's the latest update, 12.4.9

Basically back in October my bf was surfing and it just turned black: and that was that. He said he did have a lot of windows open but other than that nothing eventful going on.

We were out of town and my only option was to plug in to wall outlet: Wiped it, reset to new but haven't been able to see anything since; just a few sound commands will happen.

QUESTION: What sort of $$ am I looking at to get it repaired in Canada? It's a 2014 iPad AIR Wifi only. Excellent condition.

A forced restart of the iPad may be helpful:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.
