Using iPhone 12 as Aux Input

Hello, need help. I use my phone to test inputs of stereos. Recently I can not longer get signal out of the phone using lightning>3.5 adapter with a 3.5>Stereo RCA cable, or with a lightning>3.5 then using a 3.5mm patch cord. Been working for years but now no. Is there a setting they have added? Are they forcing us into BT only?
