Issues with Bluetooth on M1 MacBook Pro

Hi,

I recently upgraded (not sure if I should put that in quotes) to the 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 and have been having a lot of problems using my monitor with my Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard. I got the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter from Apple and what happens when I connect it to my monitor (ViewSonic VX2457-MHD 24 Inch 75Hz 2ms 1080p) is neither the mouse nor the keyboard can wake the MacBook from sleep without my turning them on and off repeatedly or even turning them off, disconnecting and reconnecting the Adapter and THEN turning both the mouse and the keyboard on again. Has this happened to anyone else and if so have you figured out a solution? Also anyone else having problems with their Bluetooth wireless headphones losing connection?

I can't decide if I'm happy or disappointed to see so many other people reporting Bluetooth issues.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hello Chocolateprophet,

We understand that you've experienced some Bluetooth connectivity issues after upgrading to Big Sur.

Which version of Big Sur are you using? If you're not running 11.1, update to that version and try the headphones again.

If that doesn't help, do the following:

  1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu, and turn Bluetooth "Off" then back "On".
  2. If this happens with Wi-Fi, disable Wi-Fi and try again.
  3. Try connecting to a 5GHz network if available and try again.
  4. Complete these steps: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

If the issue continues, please contact support: Get Support

Have a good rest of your week.

Hi SnickZ,

Thanks for writing.

I updated to 11.1 and gave it a try. I wanted to give it some time before responding. I'm still having issues with the headphones and with the magic keyboard and mouse. I have spent a total of an hour this week trying to wake my computer up and keep it awake when it is connected to my monitor.

I already tried turning Bluetooth on and off.

I don't mean to be snarky but the link to wireless interference is ridiculous. My previous MacBook Pro (from 2015) had no "wireless interference" but the supposed upgrade can't use Bluetooth if there are other devices or a microwave in the same location?

Are there any other solutions or is this just a hardware issue? If it is a hardware issue will Apple be providing a free fix at some point?

Hi Chocolateprophet,

We're glad you've had the chance to try those steps. In reference to interference there is a possibility that interference can occur, and to help isolate the issue utilizing the tips outlined in that article. If there are no devices near the computer that could contribute to interference, or you continue to have issues after ruling out any interference the next step would be to reach out to Apple using the contact details available via the Get Support website.

Take care.
