Bluetooth iPhone to car volume issue

When I connect my iPhone iOS 14 to my car via Bluetooth it plays music just fine. As soon as I adjust the volume on my car deck/navigation screen the volume changes for less than a second and then fades out and pauses the music. The only way to resume the music is to hit play on the phone and then it resumes play at the new volume. I basically cannot adjust the volume on my car stereo without the iPhone going into pause mode. Any fix for this?

I fixed my problem. I did two things at the same time so I am not sure which was the remedy.

I uninstalled the music app and I also changed the EQ normalize to on.

Have not had the issue since.

Mine is similar except if I’m listening to Audible, Pandora or podcasts it will switch the source to play the Music app automatically. It happens identically on both my 2012 and 2017 Toyota Highlanders.

I would love to find a fix to this.
