Cannot see USB SuperDrive

I have just added a USB SuperDrive to my Mac mini (11.1) and cannot see it in Finder or on the desk top. It's communicating and can read disks (autoplays music CD's etc.) but cannot see it. Finder has the correct checkboxes linked to show CD's etc and it shows up in system information.

I've tried safe mode with no success

any help would be much appreciated :)

It won't show in Finder unless there is a disc (with data) in the drive. Does it show in the USB section of System Information (Option-click the at the top-left of screen)?

You can add Eject to the menu bar and see if it shows when you click it.

Hi there Boatmancalls,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand your SuperDrive is not showing in Finder on your Mac. We’ll be happy to help.

Let’s use this article to troubleshoot the drive not showing: If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar when connected to Mac. Use this one to see which devices are currently connected to your Mac: See the devices connected to your Mac. We hope this helps.

Best regards.
