Adobe Printer Utility and Big Sur

Having used the Adobe Printer Utility for some years now to profile my printers, I now find that since upgrading to OS Big Sur I cannot open this utility. After considerable research I understand that there are several issues with Big Sur with regard to third party apps and plugins. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix other than waiting for a further OS upgrade in the future? Interested to hear from anyone with this issue.

As an addendum I did read from the Adobe website "The Adobe Printer Utility is not supported on MacOS Catalina or later". I guess that's it then!

Update:

I have just received this from Permajet who I use mostly.

"We know that the Adobe Color Print Utility works successfully with Big Sur providing you have printer drivers available and installed correctly from the relevant printer manufacturers website. We have successfully created profiles from a number of Big Sur users using the utility. It usually is a problem with the Apple security which needs to allow the app to run. Probably best to give us a call if you are struggling to produce the charts."

The Apple security issue is something I have been aware of but unable to solve it. I shall ring them Monday and post back with any progress. Thanks anyway.

There are several other methods of profiling your printer to various types and surfaces of paper. There are services that offer profiling. You download a patch file from their site, print it on several sheets of the specific paper and then send it to them for profiles. The profiles are emailed to you and then installed in Photoshop, Lightroom etc.

You can also purchase the necessary hardware and software from several vendors and do it yourself. If you do a lot of custom profiles, this makes sense. But if you only work with several papers, then using an outside service makes the most sense.

I totally understand the motive behind the decision and in most cases applaud it. However as I am a photographer who uses specialised photo paper I occasionally have to profile my printers to the respective paper. This involves using the Adobe utility patch file that can be downloaded, printed and scanned at the paper suppliers (Permajet) for profiling. Unfortunately this now cannot happen. So I am now in limbo until it is replaced with a 64 bit alternative or someone comes up with another profiling method.

After several calls and emails still no progress (no-one has an answer) except that after I seemingly bypassed the security warning (developer cannot be verified), and opened the downloaded file. I now have an Adobe Printer Utility icon in the dock but when I try to open it all I get is a blank window i.e. nothing in it, and nothing opens.

It was suggested that I "unlock" the Mac to allow the download to open but I was unsure what to do other than switch the firewall off temporarily. I did that but nothing tangible happened. Very frustrating!
