homepod mini will only play AppleMusic?

I have iTunes Match, so all of my music is in the cloud. I can play it from iPad, iPhone, and Mac. When I install a HomePod mini, at first it will play my playlists if I ask it to play playlist x IN MY LIBRARY. After a while, it stops and gives me the error, "something's up with your Apple Music account." I don't have an Apple Music account. It will not play tracks from my library at all. I reinitialize the HomePod and it behaves correctly for a day, and then stops. Siri refuses. It does work as a wifi speaker, though.

Also, when I started using the HomePod mini, all of my devices start asking for my AppleID password at least once a day.

The apple support people don't have an answer.

Defective unit? Do HomePods only play AppleMusic? What's the story?

Some things you can try:

  • Reboot your wifi modem; once it’s back online:
  • Sign out of your Apple ID in the home app - sign back in

  • Restart the HomePod:

Open the Home App - go to the Room it’s in

Long press on the HomePod icon to bring up settings, scroll down to the gear icon, tap that, scroll to the bottom to Reset HomePod - then select Restart HomePod
