Super Large Final Cut Pro Library Size

Hi!

I am new to Final Cut Pro and am using to stitch together some small home videos shot in 4K.

I have roughly 5 videos and all I have done so far is to scrub through them to select the parts I want to input. looking at the file size of the library and it is a whopping 110GB!

I was careful to leave the original files in place and selected "optimized media" when importing the videos.

If this continues I will be out of storage within the next 15mins. Looking through posts I saw that some people recommended deleting the proxy media but I don't have any to delete and following those steps did little to help.

Any help in this regards is deeply appreciated!

Mac mini 2018 or later

You probably don’t need the optimized files, and they’re probably taking up most of the space. Select the library in the FCP sidebar and use File>Delete generated library files. If you have difficulty with playback create proxy media.

Did you select the library and do File->Delete Generated LIBRARY Files?

The text on the menu and what gets deleted change depending on your selection.

If you did, then try quitting FCP and see how much space you got back.

You deleted all the generated files? Don’t know what your storage organization is but optimized files are very large. When you imported the media, was it in a camera card or camera structure? If so the leave in place option is ignored and the media is copied into the selected library location.

So i was not selecting the library itself while trying to delete the generated files thereby it not actually deleting the files.

I had copied the media over to the internal hard drive into a folder prior to importing it.

I deleted the optimized media but it did not make any difference whatsoever.

Not having any issues with playback even at 4K resolution.

Yeah I was not selecting the library prior to trying to delete the generated files.

I copied the files over onto the hard drive prior to importing them.
