Broken phone

No backup and phone broken. I have iphone 8 and sim card from old phone. Will I lose contact/pics for new iphone since nothing has been backed up? I am clueless and can't get help from apple. Thanks for your help!

The SIM card only has your phone number.

On the new phone, sign in with your Apple ID and password when prompted. Choose the "restore from backup" option and see if any backups are available.

If not, then you may have lost everything. Finish setting up the phone, let it sit plugged in to the wall for an hour or so, then see if any of your contacts have synced.
