Sorry to do it, but below is the 11.1 update that won't complete.

Shutdown computer. Connect to charger and disconnect any external drives. Startup computer and immediately hold shift key. It is Safe Mode and will load very slowly- Normal. If all goes well the installer will finish
Must ask - " The update I'm having a problem with is only 3.7GB " what update is in question? User profile showing MBA 13" macOS 11.0. The last update to Big Sur is 11.1 and there is no Standalone Download for that one
Is your MacBook olderthan mid 2013? Do you have at least 35 GB free storage on your internal drive?
It is. 2019. The update I'm having a problem with is only 3.7GB. Have more than enough room for it. I just get that error message that says failed to download each time I try.
