How to organise contacts on iphone

Hi people, I started using iphone 2 years ago.

Contacts and syncing things was the biggest pain in the neck . I have

1) contacts from my office email [we use o365 now, my office email is the "exchange account" inside the iphone. There are 2 kinds

1a) office address book

1b) people whom are into my iphone contacts because i saved them either thru outlook o365 or through my iphone contact],

1c) my own contacts from my personal life [i have them on gmail] .

Inside gmail I have 3 versions contacts from iphone phone the Previous and earlier android phones "n".

How do you guys keep everything separate but accessible ? (Say i have a friend who is also my coworker.

His office number and name is within office contacts, i have saved his name Alex Johns, office email , office tel as contact card1.

I saved from my iphone his name Alex Johns2 personal number as contact2. How would i know where has the office contact card gone to ?

Where has the Alex Johns2 contact card gone to?

When i need to merge / differentiate them - like do a housekeeping of different people and those whom i no longer need- how do you guys start the housekeeping ? [so that the contacts whom you have deleted don't come revived back again? ]

Thank you in advance!

Hi SueTate,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand you'd like to organize contacts on your iPhone. We'll be happy to help.

When you have more than one account to sync and manage your contacts, you'll want to review the default account that is set on your iPhone. Adding new contacts will automatically be stored under your default account. Here's an article with more information: Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Specifically the section that says, "Choose a default account to add new contacts."

In addition, you can open the contacts app on your iPhone and see which accounts are turned on in order to view a list of your contacts. To do that, you can open the Contacts app > tap on "Groups" in the upper left corner.

When you merge or copy the contact information from the Exchange account to iCloud, you can turn off "Contacts" for your Exchange account to avoid any duplicates by going to Settings > Contacts > Accounts > Exchange > Contacts. You can also review this helpful guide: If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts

Kind regards.

Contacts are stored in either iCloud or through your third email account. iCloud Drive stores files, such as Pages, Numbers, Keynote files and more: What is iCloud Drive?

Gmail is a email service that is offered by Google. It's one of the many services that Google has to offer. Here's more information: How Google Accounts work

In reference to Google Contacts, if you have contacts stored through a Gmail account, you can view the contacts by signing in with your Gmail account. Here's a link with additional details: Get started with Contacts - What can you do with Google Contacts?

Hello Eric~F,

Thank you very much! You helped solved part of the puzzle for me!

After trying that trick "turn off "Contacts" for your Exchange account" I found the gmail contacts changed from 956 to 348.

So that explains the 600+ that resides in Outlook a/c. but also showed up in gmail contacts.

1 Could you then teach me how can I now remove duplicates?

1a) Is contacts in Icloud drive

another

i) storage thing that backs up whatever i do to gmail contact listing ?

or it a

ii)separate version of gmail contact list .

If it is (ii) then i need to do a duplicates removal - how do i do that, given i have gmail account, another line that says google.com , a line that says exchange?

2a) is there such a thing as google.com contacts?

2b) Isn't "google.com" the same thing as "gmail" ? I got both of them as 2 options inside the trick you taught me :

//quote //Settings > Contacts > Accounts > Exchange > Contacts//unquote//

For house keeping's sake, Is it rightful to remove one of them and just have one on the iphone ?

What are the things I need to check for before doing so , so that I just rid the duplicates but keep those contacts i need and want ?
