Airpods make iPhone 11 Pro lag!

Hi everyone, I have an iPhone 11 Pro, i also have AirPod pro too. But when I connect them, they make my phone lag like mad. Won’t let me on any apps without taking ages and don’t play sounds or music. Only makes the tone once they’re in my ears but still don’t work. I’ve tried everything and it’s really frustrating! Just want to listen to my music.
