Explanation/Purpose for remoted Process Network Activity on Big Sur

I'm running an iMac Pro with the latest Big Sur updates installed. A process called "remoted" was flagged by my intrusion prevention system as suspect. What is the purpose of this process? It's running as root, running at startup and is sending data in/out the network per the activity monitor. I'm not running any Remote Desktop, management, screen sharing, or any other software that would explain the network activity associated with the process. I've seen it running on other devices, but there's typically zero bytes sent/received. Please advise.
