Google Movies playing error 11866 on iPad mini 5

platform: iOS 14.3

device: iPad mini 5th gen.

app: Google Play Movies & TV

issue: App stops playing video every 2 minutes and shows this error: “There was a problem while playing [-11866] Touch to retry.”

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, restarting the iPad, but the issue persists. It is very frustrating having to touch the screen every 2 minutes so that the video can continue playing. Had not tried downloading the video and then watch (because I don’t want to) but streaming should not be like this.
