Red Notification Circle on Messages

Since I switched to a new Iphone (iphone 12) I sometimes don't get any notification (like vibration, sounds, the banner thing) when I get a new imessage or message and I never get the red notification circle/badge thing that shows you how many new messages you have. My notifications allowance is on (on lock screen, notification center and banners) and I also tried switching it off and on a few times with restarting the phone inbetween but nothing worked. The message app is also the only app where I have that problem, it works just fine on whatsapp, mails and others and I never had the problem with my old iphone.
