I used to flag important emails with a flag so that I can easily find them when looking back at old emails. I I can no longer see flagged emails since the latest update-Mac Os Big Sur. It only appears to be possible to search for flagged emails but this takes them out of sequence which is unhelpful. Does anyone know if it is possible to put the visual flag back on to individual emails????

Mojave (for instance) placed the Mail flags in the gutter to the left of the mail messages listing, but Apple has again, flushed usability over style, and redesigned the Big Sur Mail application to place the flags at the end of the first message entry text row. There will be no user configurable change to this new application design, as it is hard-wired into the application build.
You can certainly send feedback to the Apple Mail product team, asking them what they were thinking…

Very obvious which is more user friendly.

Thanks. I knew that but the flag doesn’t show up against the email nor any previously flagged emails since the Big Sur update. The update has removed the flags. I used to highlight emails with flags but now the flags have disappeared.
Yes I found that but it doesn’t help. I want to see flags up against the side of important emails as per before the update. You can only see if an email is flagged within the message not against the side of the email lists. It’s taking a lot of time to search for important emails
In the Top Tool Bar of Mail should be the Flag Icon. Click in the individual email and then Flag it
In the Big Sur 11.1 Mail application's search field, enter the following:
Locate all flagged email messages
flagged
Locate only the red flagged email messages
red AND flagged
