reset password on new iPhone 12 Plus Pro
Trying to reset password. Facial recognition quit working. When setting up, only three days ago, it never asked me for a pass code number. I cannot use my phone.

No the phone did ask you to create a 6 digit passcode when you set it up, there is no way to use Face id without one.
If you don't know your passcode to unlock the device you will need to do this see below
