My 2012 MacBook is frozen after installing, or almost installing, the newest operating system. I did a hard restart by holding down power button, however, it loads, looks like it’s about to finish and then it keeps getting stuck with the screen pictured. How to fix??

We'd like to assist with the issue you're experiencing on your Mac after trying to install macOS Big Sur.
To confirm, does your Mac keep restarting on its own and booting up to the same screen with the progress bar?
If not, and if the Mac has been stuck on that screen for more than 2 hours, restart your Mac and hold down the Option (⌥) or Alt key to start up to Startup Manager, which allows you to choose other available startup disks or volumes.
If you are able to start up to Startup Manager, do you see a Macintosh HD disk drive and are you able to select and boot into it?

You attempt to install macOS Big Sur again. However, please make sure you back up your Mac and its data using any of the resources here: Back up your Mac
Once your Mac is backed up, you can try installing macOS Big Sur again.
Should the issue occur again during installation, connect with Apple Support here and they will investigate further with you: Get Support

after 29 min of same update same bar as previous problem.
then I get an error occurred apply software update. Click ok
then select the system you want to start computer.
then it restarts then same thing over and over!! Please Help
The screen was stuck here forever so I followed your instructions to restart with Mac HD disk drive and that seemed to work! Thanks so much!
