The fact that it “just died” is a sure indication something either eventually shorted out or corroded (wet, tiny, energized electronic connections can corrode remarkably fast). You’ll need to replace it.

The rice or desiccant ideas really don’t work well most of the time. Trying to dry something with a desiccant is like waiting for a soaked sponge to dry out from evaporation. Desiccants are designed to keep dry things dry, not dry out wet or soaked items. Drying out something wet in a closed container with a desiccant is a stunningly slow process. And wet electronics only need a instant to short out and fry components.

iPad has no water resistance - and should not be used in proximity to water.

If the iPad has been exposed to water, it should be fully shut-down. Any attempt to use it whilst moisture is inside the iPad can lead to irreparable damage.

If you have any silica-gel granules, placing the iPad in a paper bag - and the bag with the iPad in a sealed box of silica gel - will remove a lot of moisture.
